Jamison] Thank you. 00:00:21.000 --> 00:00:23.000 My name is Calvin Jamison 00:00:23.000 --> 00:00:26.000 and I'm the Vice President for Facilities & Economic Development 00:00:26.000 --> 00:00:29.500 at THE University of Texas at Dallas, 00:00:29.500 --> 00:00:31.000 which happens to be in Richardson and Dallas. 00:00:31.000 --> 00:00:35.000 I welcome you to this groundbreaking 00:00:35.000 --> 00:00:38.000 of the third addition to the School of Management. 00:00:38.000 --> 00:00:45.000 It's something that I know Dean Pirkul has been looking forward to for quite some time. 00:00:47.000 --> 00:00:51.000 It's my honor to welcome you as we break ground 00:00:51.000 --> 00:00:56.000 and begin the construction process for yet another new facility. 00:00:56.000 --> 00:01:00.000 -- Regent Crain, it seems like you were just here last week -- 00:01:00.000 --> 00:01:03.000 which will support continued growth, 00:01:03.000 --> 00:01:06.000 particularly in the School of Management. 00:01:06.000 --> 00:01:12.000 Over the last three months we have broken ground on three new buildings, 00:01:12.000 --> 00:01:16.000 and cut the ribbon on a 4th, 00:01:16.000 --> 00:01:22.000 all totaling over 650,000 sq.ft. and over $500M. 00:01:25.000 --> 00:01:31.000 Those include a new Esports Center, 00:01:31.000 --> 00:01:36.000 a new Student Success Center and Student Union, 00:01:36.000 --> 00:01:40.000 the dedication of the Athenaeum -- The Crow Museum of Asian Art -- 00:01:40.000 --> 00:01:44.000 and the groundbreaking of our new Performance Hall 00:01:44.000 --> 00:01:48.000 -- all in that period of time. Now we're here. 00:01:48.000 --> 00:01:54.000 You see, the UT Dallas Economic Engine is in full throttle. 00:01:54.000 --> 00:02:01.000 -- and speaking of full throttle, work continues on the completion of the Silver Line 00:02:01.000 --> 00:02:08.000 just to the north of campus along with the UT Dallas station. 00:02:08.000 --> 00:02:13.000 Now, in this building 10 years ago -- indeed, it's hard to believe -- 00:02:13.000 --> 00:02:20.000 we opened Phase Two, a 108,000 sq.ft. addition to JSOM, 00:02:20.000 --> 00:02:26.000 providing much needed space for the continued growth of this campus. 00:02:26.000 --> 00:02:28.000 You'll hear more about the content of this 00:02:28.000 --> 00:02:33.000 when the Dean talks and Dr. Benson speaks about what it's going to cover, 00:02:33.000 --> 00:02:38.000 but it adds greatly to what's been a transformative effort 00:02:38.000 --> 00:02:42.000 to the School of Management. 00:02:42.000 --> 00:02:46.000 This building, along with the School of Engineering, 00:02:46.000 --> 00:02:48.000 are continuing to compete 00:02:48.000 --> 00:02:53.000 for who can enroll in most students, in the most time, for the most impact. 00:02:53.000 --> 00:02:55.000 Friendly competition is always good. 00:02:59.000 --> 00:03:04.000 In this building, also, you will find an additional Starbucks. 00:03:04.000 --> 00:03:06.000 We have another one on campus, 00:03:06.000 --> 00:03:13.000 but knowing the School of Management, that one will particularly be of great use. 00:03:14.000 --> 00:03:18.000 The space is greatly needed, as I mentioned earlier, 00:03:18.000 --> 00:03:20.000 because of their student body that continues to grow. 00:03:20.000 --> 00:03:22.000 Under the leadership of Dean Pirkul, 00:03:22.000 --> 00:03:27.000 This facility will provide a new home for new Executive Education, 00:03:27.000 --> 00:03:31.000 unique in this building, that you will notice, 00:03:31.000 --> 00:03:36.000 in the center that you see --and the continued growth of the school. 00:03:36.000 --> 00:03:39.000 I would like to begin today's celebration 00:03:39.000 --> 00:03:41.000 with the introduction of our stage party, 00:03:41.000 --> 00:03:45.000 as well as some special guests. 00:03:45.000 --> 00:03:50.000 On stage, I amd joined by the UT Dallas President, Dr. Richard C. Benson, 00:07:11.000 --> 00:07:19.000 for yet another groundbreaking and/or ribbon-cutting during his tenure 00:07:19.000 --> 00:07:23.000 -- and he's done an enormous amount in the last eight years since he's been here. 00:07:23.000 --> 00:07:27.000 Dr. Benson, thank you so much, and I hope you will continue to enjoy this 00:07:27.000 --> 00:07:29.000 as you make the transition, 00:07:29.000 --> 00:07:33.000 and get another opportunity to put your seal 00:07:33.000 --> 00:07:36.000 on the continued growth of The University of Texas Dallas. 00:07:36.000 --> 00:07:38.000 Dr. Benson. 00:07:38.000 --> 00:07:43.000 [audience applause] 00:07:43.000 --> 00:07:46.000 [Dr. Richard C. Benson] Thank you, Calvin. 00:07:46.000 --> 00:07:48.000 Going immediately off script... 00:07:48.000 --> 00:07:53.000 Like Calvin, I've learned to measure progress by disappearing parking lots and Starbucks showing up. 00:07:55.000 --> 00:07:57.000 Did I hear we have two Starbucks? [audience laughter] 00:07:57.000 --> 00:08:00.000 OK, that's progress. 00:08:00.000 --> 00:08:02.000 So again, thank you and good morning, everyone. 00:08:02.000 --> 00:08:05.000 Today we officially break ground for the third edition 00:08:05.000 --> 00:08:07.000 to the Naveen Jindal School of Management. 00:08:07.000 --> 00:08:09.000 On behalf of The University of Texas at Dallas, 00:08:09.000 --> 00:08:11.000 I am happy to welcome each of you. 00:08:11.000 --> 00:08:15.000 Let me also extend a special welcome to Regent Christina Melton Crain, 00:08:15.000 --> 00:08:17.000 who you will hear from shortly. 00:08:17.000 --> 00:08:19.000 We're also honored to have someone with us 00:08:19.000 --> 00:08:22.000 who's made a tremendous impact in the Jindal School of UT Dallas, 00:08:22.000 --> 00:08:25.000 Chuck Davidson. Chuck and Nancy -- and actually they're both here -- 00:08:25.000 --> 00:08:30.000 were named Jindal School of Management Distinguished Alumni in 2002 00:08:30.000 --> 00:08:35.000 [audience applause] 00:08:35.000 --> 00:08:39.000 and they received the UT Dallas Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008. 00:08:39.000 --> 00:08:42.000 Chuck and Nancy's generosity extends to a major gift 00:08:42.000 --> 00:08:44.000 for the construction of the original JSOM building 00:08:44.000 --> 00:08:47.000 and they established four endowed research positions in the school 00:08:47.000 --> 00:08:51.000 as well as supported the Davidson Management Honors Program. 00:08:51.000 --> 00:08:55.000 I fondy recall the 2016 opening of the Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center 00:08:55.000 --> 00:08:58.000 -- it was pretty much my first groundbreaking. 00:08:58.000 --> 00:09:03.000 That beautiful centerpiece to our campus was made possible by Chuck and Nancy's desire 00:09:03.000 --> 00:09:07.000 to provide a place for all Comets to have a home when they return to campus. 00:09:07.000 --> 00:09:11.000 Also joining us are several other accomplished graduates of the Jindal School 00:09:11.000 --> 00:09:14.000 who have received UT Dallas' Distinguished Alumni Award. 00:09:14.000 --> 00:09:16.000 I've got three to recognize: 00:09:16.000 --> 00:09:21.000 A.K. (Ashok Kumar) Mago received the award in 2016. 00:09:21.000 --> 00:09:23.000 He has been a great friend to UT Dallas, 00:09:23.000 --> 00:09:26.000 especially through his work with the US-India Chamber of Commerce. 00:09:26.000 --> 00:09:31.000 Ron Nash, for his leadership to UT Dallas and the broader community. 00:09:31.000 --> 00:09:34.000 Ron received the award in 2011. 00:09:34.000 --> 00:09:36.000 He is an avid supporter of UTD 00:09:36.000 --> 00:09:40.000 and currently serves as co-chair of the University's New Dimensions campaign. 00:09:40.000 --> 00:09:42.000 So thank you, Ron. 00:09:42.000 --> 00:09:45.000 [audience applause] 00:09:45.000 --> 00:09:49.000 -- and Kevin Ryan received the award in 2014. 00:09:49.000 --> 00:09:52.000 Now retired after a career with Merit Energy Company, 00:09:52.000 --> 00:09:56.000 Kevin continues to support UT Dallas as a member of the Executive Board. 00:09:56.000 --> 00:09:58.000 So, thank you. 00:09:58.000 --> 00:10:01.000 [audience applause] 00:10:01.000 --> 00:10:04.000 So if you've been around UTD for a while, 00:10:04.000 --> 00:10:06.000 you know that our campus has gone through some significant changes 00:10:06.000 --> 00:10:08.000 over the last few years. 00:10:08.000 --> 00:10:12.000 Construction cranes and earth-moving vehicles are our constant companions. 00:10:12.000 --> 00:10:16.000 In fact, some students say that we should make the crane our mascot, 00:10:16.000 --> 00:10:25.000 and following our tradition of reversing names, it would be known as ENARC ... you know, TEMOC. 00:10:25.000 --> 00:10:29.000 So regardless of the presence of cranes, they're a sure sign that UT Dallas is moving forward 00:10:29.000 --> 00:10:33.000 into the best and newest version of itself. 00:10:33.000 --> 00:10:39.000 Our ongoing transformation has been propelled by our 57% increase in enrollment since 2013. 00:10:39.000 --> 00:10:43.000 With our student body numbers hovering around 30,000, 00:10:43.000 --> 00:10:45.000 I am confident in saying that what takes place on our campus 00:10:45.000 --> 00:10:48.000 will continue to impact our state and nation. 00:10:48.000 --> 00:10:50.000 Evidently, others agree with me, 00:10:50.000 --> 00:10:52.000 as attested by our rise in the rankings. 00:10:52.000 --> 00:10:56.000 UTD remains the 3rd best public university in Texas 00:10:56.000 --> 00:10:58.000 -- keep that in mind if someone asks -- 00:10:58.000 --> 00:11:00.000 and is ranked #52 in the nation 00:11:00.000 --> 00:11:03.000 by the latest U.S. News and World Report rankings 00:11:03.000 --> 00:11:07.000 -- and by the way, that's up to 20 places in a 2-year stretch, from 72nd to 52nd -- 00:11:07.000 --> 00:11:09.000 and the Naveen Jindal School of Management 00:11:09.000 --> 00:11:15.000 consistently ranks among the top 50 public university business schools in the nation. 00:11:15.000 --> 00:11:18.500 Since its founding in 1975, it has become a national and international leader 00:11:18.500 --> 00:11:21.000 in research and education. 00:11:21.000 --> 00:11:24.000 With such strong programs and excellent facilities, 00:11:24.000 --> 00:11:27.000 we are attracting some of the best and brightest students 00:11:27.000 --> 00:11:29.000 from across the country and around the world. 00:11:29.000 --> 00:11:33.000 The Jindal School, and the Jonsson School of Engineering & Computer Science 00:11:33.000 --> 00:11:35.000 are two largest schools by enrollment. 00:11:35.000 --> 00:11:37.000 -- our anchor stores, if you will -- 00:11:37.000 --> 00:11:40.000 and more than 10,000 students take classes in the Jindal School. 00:11:40.000 --> 00:11:45.000 That's a lot of students needing places to study and to engage, 00:11:45.000 --> 00:11:50.000 and it's one reason why the Jindal School is as busy at night as it is during the day. 00:11:50.000 --> 00:11:55.000 Students in the Jindal School can take part in internships and scholarship opportunities 00:11:55.000 --> 00:11:57.000 as well as focus clubs and organizations. 00:11:57.000 --> 00:12:02.000 The school also operates its own honors program and Career Management Center. 00:12:02.000 --> 00:12:05.000 It is impossible to overstate the importance of the Jindal School 00:12:05.000 --> 00:12:09.000 for bright students and dedicated staff and faculty. 00:12:09.000 --> 00:12:16.000 So $98M has been allocated for construction of a three-story 125,000 sq.ft. addition. 00:12:16.000 --> 00:12:21.000 It will provide much-needed classrooms, meeting rooms, study areas, and faculty offices. 00:12:21.000 --> 00:12:25.500 The Honors program in the Jindal School, including the Davidson Management Honors Program, 00:12:25.500 --> 00:12:27.500 will have new offices, 00:12:27.500 --> 00:12:32.000 as well as the Executive Education program, and the new Communications program. 00:12:32.000 --> 00:12:34.000 The other speakers on the agenda today 00:12:34.000 --> 00:12:36.000 will tell you in greater detail 00:12:36.000 --> 00:12:40.000 how this new addition will impact our mission at UT Dallas. 00:12:40.000 --> 00:12:43.000 I have long claimed that UTD can be one of the world's great universities, 00:12:43.000 --> 00:12:45.000 and we are especially strong in STEMM 00:12:45.000 --> 00:12:49.000 -- and by the way, we've always had two M's in our STEMM: 00:12:49.000 --> 00:12:56.000 Science, Thank you, Calvin. [audience applause] 00:14:22.000 --> 00:14:24.000 So as you've heard, 00:14:24.000 --> 00:14:30.000 UT Dallas has experienced amazing and significant growth and changes over the last decade. 00:14:30.000 --> 00:14:34.000 And the UT System Board of Regents is completely dedicated 00:14:34.000 --> 00:14:39.000 to meeting the needs of this young university that is experiencing such electric growth. 00:14:39.000 --> 00:14:44.000 New institutional spaces are essential to fueling the innovations that take place 00:14:44.000 --> 00:14:47.000 when faculty and students can explore ideas. 00:14:47.000 --> 00:14:51.000 and with the completion of this new addition, 00:14:51.000 --> 00:14:55.000 generations of students will have a robust and productive experience 00:14:55.000 --> 00:14:58.000 in the Jindal School of Management and all that it offers. 00:14:58.000 --> 00:15:05.000 The Jindal School has more than 10,000 students and more than 57,000 alumni worldwide 00:15:05.000 --> 00:15:09.000 who are terrific ambassadors for their school and UT Dallas. 00:15:09.000 --> 00:15:14.000 You have examples of the stellar alumni in the school's namesake, Naveen Jindal, 00:15:14.000 --> 00:15:20.000 as well as Chuck and Nancy Davidson, A.K. Mago, Ron Nash, and Kevin Ryan. 00:15:20.000 --> 00:15:27.000 Without a doubt, UT Dallas continues to be an important part of the educational landscape 00:15:27.000 --> 00:15:29.000 that extends beyond our state 00:15:29.000 --> 00:15:31.000 -- and especially here in North Texas -- 00:15:31.000 --> 00:15:36.000 with the amazing growth that we're having, what happens on this campus is making a real difference. 00:15:36.000 --> 00:15:39.000 I join with the rest of my colleagues at the UT System 00:15:39.000 --> 00:15:43.000 in expressing excitement for the future of this great university, 00:15:43.000 --> 00:15:48.000 and I want to say, having this in my backyard is not lost. 00:15:48.000 --> 00:15:56.000 I love having the experience of weekly discovering a new addition to this campus, 00:15:56.000 --> 00:16:00.000 whether it's the Athenaeum, whether it's cricket being brought to the campus 00:16:00.000 --> 00:16:04.000 that's going to be viewed by billions of people across the world, 00:16:04.000 --> 00:16:08.000 as well as today's dedication. 00:16:08.000 --> 00:16:12.000 It is really hard to imagine, as someone who grew up in the Dallas area, 00:16:12.000 --> 00:16:18.000 watching UT Dallas grow, with only a couple of buildings and a field, 00:16:18.000 --> 00:16:22.000 to now what it is today. Truly amazing. 00:16:22.000 --> 00:16:25.000 I now wish to welcome to the podium -- and it is my great honor to welcome -- 00:16:25.000 --> 00:16:30.000 the Dean of the Jindal School of Management, Dr. Hasan Pirkul. 00:16:30.000 --> 00:16:38.000 [audience applause] 00:16:38.000 --> 00:16:40.000 [Dr. Hasan Pirkul] Thank you, Regent Crain. 00:16:40.000 --> 00:16:44.000 On behalf of the members of the Jindal School family, 00:16:44.000 --> 00:16:46.000 I welcome everyone to our school. 00:16:46.000 --> 00:16:51.000 We appreciate you being here to join in our celebration. 00:16:51.000 --> 00:16:57.000 Before I start my remarks, I want to thank the UT System Regents. 00:16:57.000 --> 00:17:02.000 Thank you Regent Crain, our President, Dr. Benson, 00:17:02.000 --> 00:17:06.000 our Provost, Dr. Musselman, 00:17:06.000 --> 00:17:11.000 our VP of Facilities & Economic Development, Dr. Jamison, 00:17:11.000 --> 00:17:18.000 other members of the cabinet, our donors, Advisory Council members, 00:17:18.000 --> 00:17:25.000 alumni, friends, students, faculty and staff. 00:17:25.000 --> 00:17:28.000 I also want to thank our architects, 00:17:28.000 --> 00:17:32.000 that have been keeping up with me for, now, almost a year, 00:17:32.000 --> 00:17:38.000 and I want to wish good luck to the builders 00:17:38.000 --> 00:17:42.000 who are going to put up with me in the next year... [drowned out by laughter] 00:17:42.000 --> 00:17:44.000 Thank you for being here. 00:17:44.000 --> 00:17:48.000 I've had the honor of being the Dean of Jindal School of Management 00:17:48.000 --> 00:17:51.000 for the past 29 years. 00:17:51.000 --> 00:17:53.000 During this period, we have seen 00:17:53.000 --> 00:17:58.000 more than a five-fold increase in our enrollments. 00:17:58.000 --> 00:18:03.000 Along the way, we have built a school that is widely recognized 00:18:03.000 --> 00:18:06.000 as one of the leading public business schools in the nation. 00:18:06.000 --> 00:18:12.000 This new building is essential not only to accommodate the growth 00:18:12.000 --> 00:18:14.000 -- by the way, the growth continues, 00:18:14.000 --> 00:18:19.000 this year we took a step back, but next year we'll make up for it -- 00:18:19.000 --> 00:18:23.000 not only to accommodate the growth, 00:18:23.000 --> 00:18:30.000 but also to facilitate continued innovation and improvement in our academic programs. 00:18:30.000 --> 00:18:40.000 When we opened our original building in 2003, our enrollment stood at 4,200. 00:18:40.000 --> 00:18:50.000 When we broke ground on our second building, in 2013, our enrollment was nearly at 6,900 00:18:50.000 --> 00:18:52.000 -- an increase of about 62%. 00:18:52.000 --> 00:19:01.000 By the time it was dedicated in the fall of 2015, enrollment stood at nearly 8,000. 00:19:01.000 --> 00:19:08.000 By the fall of 2022, we were bursting at the seams with more than 11,000 students. 00:19:08.000 --> 00:19:12.000 —- that's another increase of another 60%. 00:19:12.000 --> 00:19:20.000 So, it looks like every 10 years, we are building a building. 00:19:20.000 --> 00:19:22.000 I was thinking about it. 00:19:22.000 --> 00:19:26.000 I don't think I can build the 4th one, but... [drowned out by laughter] 00:19:31.000 --> 00:19:43.000 Our existing buildings house 51 classrooms, 5 computer labs, a dining hall, a 350-seat auditorium. 00:19:43.000 --> 00:19:54.000 These buildings are home to nearly 11,000 students, 270 full-time faculty, 130 adjunct faculty, 00:19:54.000 --> 00:20:01.000 235 staff, and 125 PhD students. 00:20:01.000 --> 00:20:05.000 Believe me, we cannot wait to occupy our new building. 00:20:05.000 --> 00:20:09.000 During the last two years, we have been truly struggling 00:20:09.000 --> 00:20:12.000 to find offices for our new faculty and staff. 00:20:12.000 --> 00:20:17.000 As we break ground for our third building, 00:20:17.000 --> 00:20:22.000 I'm reminded that each new building led to significant improvements 00:20:22.000 --> 00:20:27.000 in the quality of education and the student experience. 00:20:27.000 --> 00:20:30.000 This new building will be no different. 00:20:30.000 --> 00:20:34.000 It will house our undergraduate programs 00:20:34.000 --> 00:20:38.000 -- all of our undergraduate programs will be in this building -- 00:20:38.000 --> 00:20:43.000 and provide our students a home and a sense of belonging. 00:20:43.000 --> 00:20:49.000 The new AI lab, the virtual reality lab, will provide much needed tools 00:20:49.000 --> 00:20:56.000 to study and teach the impact of new technologies on business innovation and practice. 00:20:56.000 --> 00:21:02.000 Informal spaces, both inside and outside the building, will provide an environment 00:21:02.000 --> 00:21:07.000 for students, faculty, and staff to socialize and collaborate. 00:21:07.000 --> 00:21:14.000 We have too many exciting features of this building for me to list here, 00:21:14.000 --> 00:21:22.000 but I must say, the one thing that I get compliments for 00:21:22.000 --> 00:21:25.000 -- mostly from faculty, but also students -- 00:21:25.000 --> 00:21:27.000 is the Starbucks, so... [drowned out by laughter] 00:21:30.000 --> 00:21:37.000 I, personally am really excited about the courtyard we are building. 00:21:37.000 --> 00:21:43.000 I think the best part of this building is going to be the large courtyard 00:21:43.000 --> 00:21:51.000 that will have water features and ample seating for our students and our staff, 00:21:51.000 --> 00:21:55.000 in fact, we'll be able to enjoy outside living. 00:21:55.000 --> 00:22:04.000 So, you know, minus July and August, I think we should be able to enjoy it. 00:22:04.000 --> 00:22:08.000 So, thank you, everyone. We appreciate you being here. 00:22:08.000 --> 00:22:12.000 It's now my pleasure to invite to the podium 00:22:12.000 --> 00:22:18.000 Vice President of Student Government, Debopreeta Bhattacharya. 00:22:18.000 --> 00:22:20.000 [audience applause] 00:22:26.000 --> 00:22:28.000 [Debopreeta Bhattacharya] Thank you, Dean Pirkul. 00:22:28.000 --> 00:22:31.000 Good morning, everyone. My name is Debopreeta Bhattacharya, 00:22:31.000 --> 00:22:33.000 and I'm the Vice President of the UT Dallas Student Government. 00:22:33.000 --> 00:22:36.000 It is an honor to be here today to celebrate the growth of the University 00:22:36.000 --> 00:22:40.000 and speak on behalf of the Student Government Senate and the student body. 00:22:40.000 --> 00:22:47.000 UT Dallas has changed considerably since I started as a freshman in the fall of 2021. 00:22:47.000 --> 00:22:49.000 we have seen substantial growth and improvement 00:22:49.000 --> 00:22:54.000 in our student population, various departments, student organizations, and more. 00:22:54.000 --> 00:22:57.500 It's been such a privilege to see and be a part of all the changes happening 00:22:57.500 --> 00:23:01.000 and the legacy we get to leave for future Comets. 00:23:01.000 --> 00:23:05.000 Although I am a sociology major, I am minoring in healthcare management, 00:23:05.000 --> 00:23:07.000 so I have gotten to experience the numerous resources 00:23:07.000 --> 00:23:09.000 the School of Management has to offer. 00:23:09.000 --> 00:23:13.000 I've had great professors help me through rigorous courses, 00:23:13.000 --> 00:23:16.000 used their Career Center to help craft my resume, 00:23:16.000 --> 00:23:20.000 and downed a latte or two from Tradecraft Coffee. 00:23:20.000 --> 00:23:24.000 Even though I have gotten lost in the JSOM buildings multiple times, 00:23:24.000 --> 00:23:30.000 I've also found a great network and career options, and so have many other students at UTD. 00:23:30.000 --> 00:23:33.000 Having the largest student population, the School of Management has flourished, 00:23:33.000 --> 00:23:37.000 ranking 38th in the entire nation for business schools. 00:23:37.000 --> 00:23:40.000 This school has become a symbol of success for UTD, 00:23:40.000 --> 00:23:43.000 and that will only carry on with the third phase of the School of Management 00:23:43.000 --> 00:23:47.000 -- along with giving ECS some competition for pretty good buildings as well. 00:23:47.000 --> 00:23:51.000 I look forward to seeing JSOM III contribute to the continuous advancement 00:23:51.000 --> 00:23:54.000 of the School of Management and UTD as a whole. 00:23:54.000 --> 00:23:57.000 And with that, I'll hand it back over to Dr. Jamison. 00:23:57.000 --> 00:23:59.000 [audience applause] 00:24:02.000 --> 00:24:04.000 [Dr. Calvin D. Jamison] Thank you very much. 00:24:04.000 --> 00:24:08.000 I thank all of you for being here this morning. 00:24:08.000 --> 00:24:13.000 I want to particularly recognize the persons who really made this happen overall, 00:24:13.000 --> 00:24:16.000 the team of people organizing this. 00:24:16.000 --> 00:24:23.000 You see them in the green shirts led by Dee Lambert. Raise your hand. 00:24:23.000 --> 00:24:29.000 Dee is my Chief of staff and... [drowned out by applause] 00:24:29.000 --> 00:24:32.000 ... we believe that that's the way you do things overall. 00:24:32.000 --> 00:24:34.000 We want you to remember several things as we begin 00:24:34.000 --> 00:24:37.000 to break up and go into our respective groundbreakings. 00:24:37.000 --> 00:24:41.000 First of all, we're going to do a number of groundbreakings, 00:24:41.000 --> 00:24:46.000 as we go through it, turning the shovel, and acknowledging different advisory groups, 00:24:46.000 --> 00:24:51.000 in terms of what we'll do, we will turn the shovels as many times as we can take a picture if need be, 00:24:51.000 --> 00:24:53.000 if you want to get involved in a picture. 00:24:53.000 --> 00:24:56.000 So all the advisory committee members that are here will be a part of these. 00:24:56.000 --> 00:24:58.000 Dee will make sure you get included. 00:24:58.000 --> 00:25:01.000 But we want to leave you with something very, very important, 00:25:01.000 --> 00:25:03.000 and that is simply this: 00:25:03.000 --> 00:25:08.000 at UT Dallas, we have things really, really, unique --as you've experienced. 00:25:08.000 --> 00:25:11.000 Only last week we had 00:25:11.000 --> 00:25:14.000 -- Dr. Benson didn't talk a lot about this, but-- 00:25:14.000 --> 00:25:19.000 he actually was putting in the "A" in "STEMM", making it "STEAMM". 00:25:19.000 --> 00:25:22.000 So we have a whole new Arts District behind this building. 00:25:22.000 --> 00:25:29.000 In addition to that, led by Gene Fitch back there, we have a huge esports program. 00:25:29.000 --> 00:25:32.000 We're the two-time national champions there. 00:25:32.000 --> 00:25:37.000 In addition, we've been to the Final Four of chess for 19 years. 00:25:37.000 --> 00:25:44.000 Most recently we did a pop-up cricket tournament with the National Cricket League, 00:25:44.000 --> 00:25:47.000 and they're going to be playing cricket the rest of the week at night, 00:25:47.000 --> 00:25:51.000 all the way 'till next Monday, with people from all over the world, 00:25:51.000 --> 00:25:53.000 as mentioned before by Regent Crain. 00:25:53.000 --> 00:25:57.000 So when you think about UT Dallas, 00:25:57.000 --> 00:26:05.000 -- first of all, when you think about Friday Night Lights, when you think about it in Texas, it's football -- 00:26:05.000 --> 00:26:09.000 when you think about Friday Night Lights in UT Dallas, it's cricket. 00:26:09.000 --> 00:26:24.000 When you think about UT Dallas overall, it's where the arts, esports, chess, and cricket are normalized. 00:26:24.000 --> 00:26:27.000 Only at UT Dallas. Only this unique experience. 00:26:27.000 --> 00:26:33.000 Only right here, in this kind of environment, where the energy is strobing. 00:26:33.000 --> 00:26:38.000 It's cool, and it's classic, and it's making a difference. 00:26:38.000 --> 00:26:44.000 So, with that in mind, we're going to move forward, with the stage party, 00:26:44.000 --> 00:26:46.000 follow us out to the right. 00:26:46.000 --> 00:26:49.000 We're going to take several photos. 00:26:49.000 --> 00:26:53.000 We ask then that the advisory group join us, 00:26:53.000 --> 00:27:00.000 Nancy and Chuck, you guys join us as well. Ron and A.K. as well. 00:27:00.000 --> 00:27:03.000 and then my colleagues from the University. 00:27:03.000 --> 00:27:08.000 We're going to take several different pictures, and we're going to make sure that we capture this moment. 00:27:08.000 --> 00:27:10.000 Thank you so much. 00:27:10.000 --> 00:27:19.000 And that officially concludes the formal program, after which, there's a reception area outside, 00:27:19.000 --> 00:27:24.000 there are tables, and we want you to enjoy your time while you're here and get to know your colleagues. 00:27:24.000 --> 00:27:28.000 All right. Everything's good? We're good? 00:27:28.000 --> 00:27:30.000 We're official adjourned. 00:27:30.000 --> 00:27:35.000 [crowd noises]
