Love Jack Rededication

April 14, 2021

Forty-five years after Margaret McDermott gifted Jim Love’s sculpture Jack to the University of Texas at Dallas, this massive modernist piece was rededicated and moved to a place of prominence on our North Mall opposite the fountains of Texas Instruments Plaza.

Many of Love’s works can be found in the collections of the DMA [Dallas Museum of Art] , MFAH [Museum of Fine Arts, Houston] , MoMA [Museum of Modern Art] and Whitney [Whitney Museum of American Art] . This particular piece, created in 1971, first appeared at the University as part of a 1976 exhibit of contemporary art. Since joining the UT Dallas art collections, the work has moved around over the years, as new buildings and landscaping reshaped our campus.

Generations of Comets have come to affectionately call this sculpture the Love Jack.
