F&ED This Week

UT Dallas hosted researchers, educators, government officials, business leaders and students last week at the Regional Center for Expertise (RCE [Regional Center for Expertise] ) North Texas Annual Summit. This two-day gathering in the Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center focused on local sustainability issues and explored their possible solutions. Organized in collaboration with the University of Texas at Arlington Office of Sustainability, RCE North Texas is one of 127 such organizations around the world which brings together regional sustainability stakeholders committed to the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs [Sustainable Development Goals] ) so they can share information and resources for implementing different sustainability initiatives throughout North Texas. This year’s summit dedicated time to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). It was also an opportunity for the University’s Office of Sustainability to showcase some of our own sustainability practices, which included providing an up-close encounter with the campus honey bees and samples of Comet Honey.
