Get Ready for a Very Active Fall Semester

As we start the fall semester at The University of Texas at Dallas, you may have noticed a lot of activity in and around our campus. Exciting changes are underway as we make improvements to better serve our students and provide more value to our community. Here’s what you can expect to see in the coming weeks and months:

  • Ongoing: It may be difficult to see from outside of our campus, but we’re building the Comets LANding Gaming and Esports Center to help our students triumph in these competitive and lucrative fields. What can’t escape anyone’s notice is the construction of our new Student Success Center / Student Union which will be the largest facility in UTD’s history, designed to serve the needs of our ever-growing student body. The project is at a place where our contractor needs to haul out truckloads of dirt before starting on the foundation, and we appreciate everyone’s patience with this phase of the work. On the north end of campus, DART continues to build the Silver Line, and you may start to see trains making test runs across the tracks.
  • Tuesday, September 24: We will hold the ribbon-cutting for the first phase of the University’s arts and performance complex, the Edith and Peter O’Donnell Jr. Athenaeum, and the groundbreaking for the second phase, a performance hall. Once completed, you’ll be able to see the Crow Asian Art Collection right in your backyard. Check the Crow Museum website for announcements about Community Day on September 28. As new phases open, this complex is expected to act as a magnet for the arts in North Texas.
  • Friday, October 4 - Monday, October 14: UT Dallas will have the honor of hosting the National Cricket League Sixty Strikes Tournament. Given the growing popularity of the sport, expected appearances by Bollywood and Hollywood entertainers, and the attention of the international press, we could see as many as 2,500 guests shuttling into our campus for every game.
  • Tuesday, October 8: We will break ground on another addition to the Naveen Jindal School of Management. As this school’s degree programs receive greater national recognition, more students have been flocking to UTD, and this addition makes room for them.
  • Tuesday, November 5: It’s Election Day, and our campus will host both Dallas County and Collin County polling places so we’re expecting plenty of visitors as long the polls stay open. Be sure to come out and vote!
  • Tuesday, November 12: Economic, government and academic leaders from throughout the region will gather at UT Dallas for our 6th Annual Economic Development Summit to discuss the best ways we can work together to help our region prosper.
  • Right Now: We have added new parking lots on the southeast side of campus, which should encourage more students and visitors to enter from the south along Campbell Road and make for less traffic along Waterview Parkway and North Floyd Road.

Beyond these major projects and events, many of the week-to-week changes around campus are announced in the Pardon Our Progress website: pardonourprogress.utdallas.edu. A great source for University events is our Comet Calendar at calendar.utdallas.edu.

The mission of the Office of Facilities & Economic Development is to support the growth and success of UT Dallas. Service is not what we do! Service is who we are!
